The size of driver club heads has grown larger and larger in recent years reaching the 460cc dimensional limit allowable. As club head size has increased titanium and composite materials have allowed manufacturers to create thinner and thinner walls to maintain lightweight characteristics. These thin walled club heads are faced with a compression force of more than 2 000 pounds at impact sending the ball from 0 to 175 miles instantly. Energy losses occur through the thin-walled crown sole and skirt resulting in lost distance. ETF Technology in effect captures and re-directs these “leaks” by structurally reinforcing the area behind and around the club face without adding material or weight. A proprietary laser welding process adds a discrete weld line around the periphery of the head that frames the face. Stronger than the surrounding titanium this Energy Transfer Frame captures the energies previously lost through the thin walls and redirects it to the club face to produce an expanded high COR (coefficient of restitution) area or Hot Zone double the size of a club without ETF. Also in the Wilson Staff Pd6 driver there are two L-Pods (Launch Pods) in the sole. A pair of 6-gram nickel tungsten alloy screws is placed in the sole to optimize the trajectory for the golfer’s particular game.
